Farnsworth Neighborhood Meeting Notes 3/22/2022

Introductions and welcome: 5 neighbors attended along with Penny Weber and Ric Olson.

1. Boundaries of Farnsworth Neighborhood

  • East side S. 12th Street to Lakeshore Drive
  • South side of Union Avenue to north side of Mead Avenue

2. Nextdoor

  • It’s a social media website that’s like Facebook for neighborhoods
  • Go to nextdoor.com and sign up, it’s free
  • Find out what’s happening in Farnsworth Neighborhood
  • Great way to communicate with your neighbors

3. Sheboygan Neighborhood Pride

  • An organization that helps neighborhoods to organize, meeting place, guide meetings, speakers
  • Neighborhood meetings a great way to meet your neighbors and neighborhood officers
  • Ultimate goal is to become a neighborhood association recognized by the city which then sends a representative to sit on the Mayors Neighborhood Leadership Cabinet (MNLC)
  • The Sheboygan Neighborhood Pride website is https://sheboyganneighborhoodpride.info, go to https://sheboyganneighborhoodpride.info/official-neighborhood-associations and the first sentence on that page says “Wondering what neighborhood you live in? Click here to view a map of all the community neighborhoods.”

4. Mayor’s Neighborhood Leadership Cabinet

  • A representative from each neighborhood association attends the meetings
  • There are currently 12 Neighborhood Associations with a 13th neighborhood in the process of being approved
  • Meet periodically during the year with discussion, speakers, tours of city facilities

5. Sheboygan Countywide Crime Stoppers

  • An organization that provides 3 ways to submit info about a crime anonymously: www.cufthem.com
  • If information leads to an arrest, cash reward available
  • Reasons people don’t give info – fear & apathy
  • A resource for law enforcement
  • We discussed Neighborhood Watch and noted that creating a formal neighborhood association is a better way to create a safe neighborhood.

6. Nixle

  • Allows the SPD to send alerts about things happening in the city
  • Sign up at www.nixle.com or go to SPD website, it’s free

7. Additional Items we talked about:

  • National Night Out will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at End Park.
  • Sign-up for the Sheboygan Insider newsletter at www.sheboyganwi.gov/sheboyganinsider and at the bottom of that page there is a form for submitting your info to subscribe to the mailing list. On this page is also the archive of past editions.
